2013 Castagna 'Growers Selection' Harlequin

2013_harlequin

An interesting orange wine from Castagna in Beechworth, Victoria. A blend of Roussane, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Viognier fermented on there skins in amphora.

Aromatics similar to what I've been seeing in a lot of these skin contact wines with a nice punch of pineapple, peach, and wet stone. Chalky texture with a good kick of acidity to finish clean. A fun and interesting wine that developed well in the glass.

2014 Unico Zelo Esoterico

2014 Unico Zelo EsotericoMade from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Fiano and Muscat, sourced from various regions in South Australia. Another great value white wine that has seen some skin contact and has been left unfined and unfiltered. Excellent value. A very affordable way to check out how good a skin contact wine can be.

Wild nose with lots of floral notes alongside aromas of citrus and pineapple. A little hint of baked bread yeastiness. Wonderfully textural wine and the flavors stick around for a good amount of time leaving lots to ponder. A very interesting and quite unique wine.

2014 Unico Sauvignon Blanc

With grapes sourced from three vineyards in the Northern part of the Adelaide Hills, this wine spent around 3 weeks in contact with its skins and around 60% of it was barrel fermented. Not your average Sauvignon Blanc.

Savory nose with some herbaceous and minerally elements. Not much of the typical fruity aromas for this varietal. Reminds me a bit of some Vermentinos I've had. Interesting aromas, texture, and mild acidity make this probably the most unusual Sauvignon Blanc I've had. I
